What you should know before you try a fashion hair color

Fashion colors are any colors outside of the natural. They are described as rainbow, unicorn, mermaid, pastel, or vivid. This trend has taken the beauty industry by storm and it isn’t going away anytime soon. There was a time when if you saw someone with rainbow hair it was a shock. Even a shade of pink of blue was pretty jaw dropping. Now it’s everywhere. It’s on the runway, its on your favorite celebrity, and it’s on everyday women walking down the street. It even takes up about 25 percent of my clientele.

Before you take the plunge and decide you are ready to take on this trend there is a lot you should know. Fashion colors have a huge amount of maintenance and home care that is so important to keeping your hair healthy and looking great.

The first thing you should know is that for most colors, your hair needs to be pre-lightened. Basically that means it has to be bleached, and bleached to as light as possible. The lightest color hair can be is pale yellow, the color of the inside of a banana. This is the best palette for coloring hair any fashion color. The only exception is if you want your hair to be orange or red in that case you don’t have to make it so light. Bleaching your hair can seriously mess up your hair. Some hair can handle it and some cannot. Most hair stylists will be able to tell you if your hair can handle lightening. If a stylist tells you your hair can’t handle bleach, believe them because you are at risk for your hair melting off. I have pushed my hair past its limits and trust me its not cute.

If you’ve decided yes, you want to proceed with the lightening. Next thing you should know is that this takes a whole lot of time and a whole lot of money. Most of these color appointments takes 3-7 hours, and a lot of stylists charge by the hour. Definitely book a consultation with a stylist that you know does this type of work and get a price quote.

The home maintenance of these colors are just as important as the process. These colors fade incredibly fast but there are def ways to prolong it. Say goodbye to hot showers, the cooler the water the better. Cold water keeps the color from washing right now the drain. Professional shampoos are also extremely important. Your stylist doesn’t just sell you product to make money. Nothing will fade your color faster than those drug store shampoos. Dry shampoo is your best freind. Most vivid colors only last in the hair about 12 shampoos so the less you wash your hair the better.

Step5: Create Volume in the Mohawk Section The last section is the most important in creating volume and movement. This section falls over all the other sections. Starting at the crown take subsections and blow dry them forward over-directing the hair. Over directing the hair forward creates volume and fullness. Keep working your way forward.
